標高1,000mの高原の森に佇む、オレンジカラーの屋根のペンションです。やさしい女性オーナーがご主人とふたりで営み、地元の新鮮な野菜やお肉を使った手作りの料理と、木造りの温もりが好評をいただいています。
A pension with an orange roof, standing in the plateau forest at 1,000 metres. The gentle owner runs it together with her husband, and guests come back for her cooking — made with vegetables and meat grown nearby — and for the comfort of a house built of wood.

海外からのお客様も多い国際派の宿。冬はスウェーデン式のセントラルヒーティングが、家じゅうを静かに暖めます。
Many of our guests come from overseas. Through the winter, a Swedish central-heating system keeps the whole house quietly warm.
Madapow ——「Madarao」と「Powder」を合わせた、海外から来たスキーヤーたちの言葉です。世界のpowder houndsを魅了してきた斑尾の雪。13本の非圧雪ツリーランコースは、日本最大です。
Madapow — Madarao plus powder — is what the skiers who travel here named this snow. It has drawn powder hounds from around the world, and the thirteen ungroomed tree-run courses are the largest such terrain in Japan.
エルムは斑尾高原スキー場に隣接しています。ゲートまで徒歩7分、送迎の車なら1分。バスの終点「斑尾高原ホテル」からもお迎えにあがります。
Elm sits right beside the Madarao Kogen ski park: seven minutes to the gate on foot, one minute by our shuttle. We'll also collect you from the Madarao Kogen Hotel bus terminus.
エルムのまわりには、宿のお客様のほかにも訪ねてくる者がいます。狐の小径をゆくキツネ、タヌキの夫婦、雪の上を走るテン。そして海を渡る前に立ち寄る、アサギマダラ。
Not all our visitors book ahead. A fox along the fox alley, a pair of tanuki, a marten crossing the snow — and the asagimadara butterfly, stopping over on its way across the sea.
地元で採れた新鮮な野菜やお肉を使った、オーナーの手作り料理。派手さより、帰ってきたときにほっとする一皿を。長期滞在「涼山泊」でお過ごしになる方も増えています。
The owner cooks with vegetables and meat from the area around us. Nothing showy — just the plate you want when you come in from the cold. More guests are staying with us long-term now, through the cool summers.
エルムは「斑尾ジャズ」や「ふるさと合唱交流会」の事務局でもあり、音楽を愛するお客様が多く集まります。館内では定期的にコンサートも開かれます。
Elm also serves as the office for Madarao Jazz and the local choral exchange, so a good number of our guests come for the music. Concerts are held here through the year.

From summer into autumn there is the Shinetsu Trail, and we offer a stay plan with transfers. Autumn in the home forest, the Shiga range seen from the rooms, shiraneaoi in spring — every season shows a different face.
